I've been thinking about reviewing popular music for quite a while and I've seen other people doing their own year-end reviews. So, why not I do my own year-end reviews next year. Why 2020, you may ask? Because I'd rather wait until the 2010s decade finishes so I can review the entire decade in November than only do 2010-18 for November while waiting until December for 2019's year end list, so that's why. Speaking of decade reviewing by month, I have compiled a list of decades of popular music I would be discussing in the following months.
May 2020 - 1950s (possibly)
June 2020 - 1960s
July 2020 - 1970s
August 2020 - 1980s
September 2020 - 1990s
October 2020 - 2000s
November 2020 - 2010s
December 2020 - 2020 (year end review)
Days 10-19 would cover the Top Ten Worst lists while Days 20-29 would cover the Top Ten Best lists. After all these decades have been covered, I'll be making a year end review for the first year of the new decade, the Roaring 2020s. Top Ten Worst Songs of 2020 would be out December 10th while Top Ten Best Songs of 2020 would be out December 20th.
I am highly certain about doing year-end reviews for 1960-2020, but I don't know if I would review an individual year of the 50s or the 50s as a whole because 1950-1955 only had their Top 30, 1956-1958 only had their Top 50, and the Billboard Hot 100 was established in August 1958, therefore making 1959 the only year in the 50s to have a full year end Hot 100 list. If I do a year-end review for each year of the 50s, honorable mentions and dishonorable mentions are highly unlikely; if there would be HMs and DMs anyway, then there's a high chance there would only be Top Three lists for 1950-1955 and Top Five lists for 1956-1958.
Also, there's a chance I might be doing underrated songs lists before doing the year-end reviews because there are a good number of great pop songs I enjoy in the 2010s that I think would've been more popular. Sure there were moderate hits and even some songs that were very popular for a short time, but being a hit song and not making the cut for the year end list still applies. So here are my plans for the Top Ten Underrated Songs of each year.
March 2019 - 2010
April 2019 - 2011
May 2019 - 2012
June 2019 - 2013
July 2019 - 2014
August 2019 - 2015
September 2019 - 2016
October 2019 - 2017
November 2019 - 2018
December 2019 - 2019
So, what are your thoughts on this idea I've been thinking about?
